The business
Keflavik Airport, Iceland provides a natural link between North America and Europe, and prides itself on delivering a modern, streamlined travel experience.
The problem
“We wanted to create a functional, hygienic and elegant user experience,” explains the terminal’s architect, Elin Kjartansdóttir. “The old-fashioned dryers take a long time, and do a bad job. We also didn’t want to see water or paper towels on the floor.”
The solution
Dyson Airblade Tap hand dryers.
No water on the floor
With Airblade™ technology in a tap, there’s no need to move to a separate drying area, so no water is dripped on the floor.
No paper towel mess
Discarded paper towels can create a negative impression of washroom cleanliness. “The taps go well with the whole design, and the washrooms still look nice after rush hour – no mess or water dripped on the floor,” adds Elin.
Fast dry times
The Dyson Airblade Tap hand dryer uses two sheets of air travelling at 430mph to dry hands completely in 12 seconds. “Passengers really like it,” explains Elin, “they know their hands will be clean and dry and there’s no walking around with wet hands.”
Hygienic
Water and air are sensor-operated, so there are no taps to turn, or buttons to touch. A HEPA filter captures 99.9% of bacteria and viruses from the washroom air.
Hands are dried in 10-12 seconds.
